Soooo…as it turns out, Australia and Austria are two completely different places. One of my good college friends Tracy, introduced me to Ulli one day over lunch. Tracy had told me about this new friend of her’s from Austria who had recently moved here with her husband and daughter. I just heard Australia (one extra syllable but an entirely different place). When I finally met Ulli I just couldn’t quite understand why her Australian accent sounded so…German. About 45 minutes into our lunch as she talked about their last home in Germany, it hit me. I am a moron.
A month or so after our lunch I got an email from Ulli’s husband, Andreas, wanting to purchase a family session for her 30th birthday. Is that not the coolest gift? We met bright and early on a Saturday morning and just played around. They are such a pleasant family to be around. They adore one another and their little daughter Emilia…seriously. The curls. The cheeks. The bright blue eyes.
Thanks so much Schlapka family. I had such a wonderful time playing with you all. Can’t wait for another luncheon with Ulli, the girl who’s not from Australia.
