Happy Birthday to the light (and dark) of our lives. The above photo is Gus on his first day at home. He was 6 weeks old and 15 lbs.
3 years ago today, little Justin (aka Gus) was born in Mountain Home, ID. The little boy in the breeder’s family picked him out as his favorite and named him Justin. I had to let him know as we took him away that I was changing his name to Gus. He looked devastated until I told him it was like the fat mouse in Cinderella. Seriously…JUSTIN? Gus was the quietest, sleepiest, laziest and FATTEST (by a long shot) puppy in the bunch. We knew we would have a quiet, lazy dog. Just what we had always wanted. Oh. Silly us.
The 45 minute car ride home Gus screamed bloody murder the entire way. I held him in my lap in the front seat as Nick drove. Nick made me turn Gus to face him so he could watch him. Love at first sight. When we got home, he screamed all day. Screamed so hard at night that I thought I was going to cry.
It never stopped. We ended up with the most vocal, whiny, high energy, 108 lb lab we could have ever imagined and we love him more than anything.
Doesn’t he look dapper here?
